Membership Renewal and Recruitment

Your membership in our Association is crucial to promote public health practices and services along with the continued development of the public health workforce. It is structured by specific initiatives and aims to influence legislative action on public health issues. The SDPHA provides opportunities for members to meet, share knowledge and experiences while strengthening public health throughout the state. The Association provides leadership and encourages a cooperative effort amongst many branches of healthcare.

We have various individual annual membership categories and three partner member levels.

Please go to the Contact Us page and fill out the membership form online. You will be directed to our Shopping Cart, where you can make secure payment through PayPal by a PayPal account or by  credit card.

You may also download the form to the right under Six Steps to Recruitment Success.

Follow These Six Simple Steps for Member Recruitment Success:

1. Be prepared to recruit. Download this membership application.

2. Reflect on the primary reason you first joined, and why you continue your membership.  A personal anecdote, relating how SDPHA has helped you, is often most compelling.  You know the value of membership – the challenge is to communicate it.

3. Listen to colleagues – uncover the need.  Once you’ve determined your colleagues' needs, tailor your message to address need.

4. Be enthusiastic, and don’t let objections throw you.
Objections – particularly  “I don’t have the time” or “I don’t have the money” – are a natural part of the sale. Objections are often a request for more information, or may give your member prospect a pause, a chance to think about the idea of joining.

5. Follow up with your prospect.
Generally you have to reinforce and reiterate the reasons for joining SDPHA at least once.

6. Don't get discouraged.
You are helping  your colleagues, SDPHA and the public health profession by getting the word out there, just as your work as a SDPHA member helps the Association and your profession.

Our mission is simple and direct

1. To promote interest in public health in
South Dakota
2. To develop, extend and coordinate public health activities
3. To aid in developing legislation and in the interest of improved public health.
