It's Back!

 

 

The 2010 SD Public Health Conference sponsored by the South Dakota Public Health Association, is June 10-11 in Sioux Falls, at the Holiday Inn City Centre, downtown off of Phillips Avenue. The Association is excited to bring back the premier public health conference in South Dakota, encompassing educational sessions in many areas of public health and the "hot" topics of 2009.

 

This year's conference features national, regional and local speakers presenting over a day and half this summer. Participants will have a chance to meet friends and network with colleagues while acquiring the latest information on topics affecting South Dakotans, the profession and the workforce.

Main Conference Objectives for the 2010 SD PublicHealth Conference: 

  1. Create a learning environment that is useful and instructive to an inter/multidisciplinary audience of health professionals.
  2. Present conference participants with the opportunity to learn evidence based solutions to common rural and public health issues along with learning more about national health topics affecting South Dakota.
  3. Provide conference participants with the opportunity to network with peers and colleagues while sharing experiences and information.
  4. Cultivate an environment that is beneficial to cooperation between diverse organizations, public health disciplines and South Dakota communities.

*Special rate: Everyone is welcome to attend the conference but if joining as a SDPHA member for $35, you can register at the member rate of $50 instead of $95.

Our keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Carmen Nevarez, she is the President for the American Public Health Association and will present on the current state of healthcare and future of public health.

  • California DHS Multicultural Health Task Force, Steering Committee Member 1993-1996;

Media Experience: I have provided expert commentaries on issues such as teen pregnancy prevention, childhood obesity, school nutrition and the  prevention of chronic disease, for: Associated Press, National Public Radio, Los Angeles Times, Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Tri-Valley Herald, and Bakersfield Californian and provided invited testimony to the California Legislature on public health issues.
