Affordable Care Act – Archived Webinar

In September 2011,  the South Dakota Public Health Association hosted a FREE webinar regarding the health reform law and how it affects you and public health in South Dakota and nationally.  You can view an archived version of the webcast, and have the opportunity to learn from state and nationally recognized experts in health policy.

Susan Polan, PhD, is the Associate Executive Director of Public Affairs and Advocacy for the American Public Health Association and has almost two decades of experience in public health, government relations and associations.  She has drafted legislation for Senate consideration on tobacco control and Safe and Drug Free Schools as an American Association for Advancement of Science Congressional science and technology fellow for the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, served as director of federal government relations at the American Cancer Society and as president and senior advisor of Partnership for Prevention.

Deb Fischer-Clemens, MHA, BSN, currently serves as the Vice President of the Avera Center for Public Policy in Sioux Falls, S.D. and has been involved in Nurse leadership positions, impacting the practice of nursing for the past 30 years and her experience in health policy stems from her service as the South Dakota State Representative for District 20 from 1995 to 2000.  During her political service, she also advocated for women and children, especially in the areas of health care and abuse and neglect. Public safety issues, including immunizations, and decreasing tobacco use among young people, were also priorities for her.
